About: Online Delivery allows students to access recordings of lessons at a time that suits them. All course material and assessments are delivered via a Moodle.

Library Technicians usually work under the supervision of a librarian and have a strong focus and vital role in customer service. With a focus on operational and technical aspects of library and information, typical tasks and responsibilities may include:
Assisting with loan and reference queries at the counter and by phone Assisting with internet and online database searches Maintaining library resources, records and systems
Entering and editing data into computerised systems Operating photocopiers and other IT and AV equipment Arranging inter-library loans Develop and present promotional programs, includeing displays and library tours

This is an ALIA (Australian Library and Information Association) Accredited Cour

Your learning commitment (known as volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 520 hours. This includes approximately 576 hours of face to face training.
You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits

• Learning support

Required student skills This is a Diploma level course. Skills required include essay writing and referencing, typing skills, computer literacy, reading and analysing material and resources, problem solving, the ability to be a self- direct learner, advanced communication skills and manage time effectively

Applying and enrolling: Before you enrol you must have a Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you don’t already have a USI, you can easily create one at https://www.usi.gov.au/students/create-your-usi. Once you have your USI, you can add TAFE Illawarra to your USI account via the Manager Permissions page on the USI website. You will need to enter these details when adding us: code: 90006, name: TAFE NSW - Illawarra Institute. If you do apply for a VET Student Loan you will need to have your Tax File Number (TFN) handy. If you do not have a TFN you can apply for one through most Australia Post outlets, and obtain a Certificate of Application for a TFN. Once you receive your TFN from the Australian Tax Office (ATO) you must contact your college so they can arrange for you to enter it into your VET Student Loan application.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
