Description: This course is for apprentices in the carpentry and joinery trade. You will learn how to produce work suitable for residential and commercial applications. 
Entry requirements: There are no educational entry requirements for this qualification.

However, before enrolling in this course you must successfully complete the WHS Induction Training (White Card) which will allow you entry into a construction worksite.

TAFE NSW will be offering this course for Apprentices during 2018

This course is available for people employed as an Apprentice and currently working in a related industry area.

You will need to provide a copy of your signed Training Plan which you will receive from your Australian Apprenticeships Centre representative.

Your learning commitment for this qualification is a minimum of 587 supervised hours There is an expectation that you will engage in a range of activities to support your supervised learning which may include:
• Independent study
• Work placement or simulated workplace activities
• Research and projects
• Preparation of assessment tasks
• Field/industry visits
• Tutorials
• Learning support

This is a Certificate III level course. Skills to study effectively include the ability to work on projects and or in a team, research information, follow instructions and communicate effectively.

Selection criteria: As part of your application, you will be required to provide evidence that you have secured an apprenticeship i.e. a signed training plan or training plan proposal. 
Smart and Skilled: This training is subsidised by the NSW Government

Other information: You are required to attend an induction into the course and campus on 24th January 2017 at 4:30pm in Block J Wollongong campus. This will include registering to the online component of the course, attendance dates and rules and expectations. You will need to bring a 2gig USB, pen and paper. You will also need your login and password details provided to you with your payment confirmation.

Recognition is the process by which you can demonstrate you already have the skills or competencies taught in a unit or qualification. It is the recognition of the skills, knowledge and experience you have gained through previous studies, work and life in general. Put simply, it means if you can demonstrate you already have the skills and experience you can complete a part or a whole qualification without needing to attend classes.

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
