Description: This qualification reflects the role of individuals employed as make-up artists to design and apply make-up for a range of purposes and occasions across the beauty, fashion, media and entertainment industries.

These individuals possess a range of well-developed technical and consultation skills where discretion and judgement is required and are responsible for their own outputs. This includes working cooperatively with a range of individuals including photographers, fashion stylists and media production staff.

Work is typically conducted as part of a team or on a freelance basis in settings such as make-up studios, retail cosmetic counters, fashion and media sets and photography studios.

No occupational licensing, certification or specific legislative requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication.

WH&S requirements for classes: You must wear closed in protective footwear and clothing that is clean and professional for the industry.
You will be required to provide clients for some of your practical classes and assessments.
You will be required to purchase your own:
USB for class and Learner Resources - $15 Textbook - Approximate cost $150 Compulsory Makeup Kit –approximate price $300 - $350 Eyelash extension kit: $120. Your teacher will discuss the purchase of the kits on the first day of attendance.
Total approximate student costs are $650

Volume of Learning:
Your learning commitment (known as the volume of learning) for this qualification is a minimum of 639 hours. This includes approximately 224 of face to face training. You will need to allocate the remaining hours to engage in a range of activities to support your learning which may include;
Independent study Work placement or simulated workplace activities
Research and projects Preparation of assessment tasks
Field/industry visits Tutorials

There are two types of Recognition:
• Credit Transfer, which allows you to receive credit for unit/s of competency previously successfully completed.
• Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL), which is an assessment process of your previous skills, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of the course you are enrolled.
